Live-ish from Comic-Con

Well hello Comic-Con goers and those who are not! I'm here lettin' my footsies take a little break. (The last couple of days have been pure touristing, so I've been on my feet for the past two and half days.) Sorry about not updating right away! There has been little internet access where I have been roaming, but fortunately by Door D of the Comic-Con center, there is some internet access here! But for the last couple of days I've been hanging in Los Angelos. They have a great little pastry shop there called Gordos. (Hey Marley, maybe that pidgeon visited Gordos!)

This for yoooou Marley!

Er, yes. Anyway! Among the epic many pastries I encountered the other day (and the epic bellyache that followed.) And at Comic-Con, there is a huge array of people. Honest, you could just sit there all Con aind watch the many people walk by and never get bored!

-Ah! Oh dear it looks like I'm out of time and now I'm not posting this till late. Oh dear oh dear.... maybe I'll do a collective post and finish this up tomorrow. Goodnight!

Noiseman Sound Insects

What in the blue blazes is Noiseman and why do Marley and love it to pieces?
Is it the visuals? Is it the music? Is it the whalefishes?
I'll tell ya why!
Noiseman Sound Insect is a sixteen minute animation created by the amazing Studio 4°C.  Noiseman Sound Insect is about an experiment gone wrong. Noiseman, a mischievous insect creature takes over the city, erasing music he doesn't like by turning it into crystals, at least, until a band of kids snaps out of the trance Noisman has put the city in and fight back. Wait, huh?

The visuals are drop dead gorgeous. Light pastel colors evoke a light atmosphere and details keep the eye happy. Even if you watch Noiseman as many times as I have, there will still be little things to catch when you watch it again.
Each character is deliciously colorful, unique, and have voices that you don't cry over because you can't tell them apart. (Noiseman's voice is very distinguishable though it might annoy some people because it is high and possibly obnoxious. His voice, however, reminds me of a devious, evil child.)
Here's a rather wicked looking Tobio. He's the hero.

Nomnomnom. Somehow, this fruit brings Tobio out of his trance.

Truth be told, the story is hazy. It is extraordinarily difficult to follow unless you spend time unraveling it; so, as a cautionary piece of advice when you're watching it for the first time around, do NOT try to make sense of it, translate it, or stop to figure out what in the heck is going on. Enjoy the action, colors and giant toy/vacuum thing that turns people into adorable, miniature whalefishes. Analyzing it will only ruin it for you.
Dr. Franken, the scientist who accidently unleashes Noiseman, stands as Marley's most favorite animated old person. Then again, he is a sucker for spirals and scarves...

Reina is determined, and more than a little peeved.
The music exceeds expectations. It's funky, groovey, and eeiry. You could take away the visuals and you'd still have a masterpiece on your hands. (The visuals make it a whole package though.)
I don't understand! ):
Peek-a-boo!
Oh, the light...

And by all means, if you don't like it, which is perfectly okay by me, (To each and his own!) stick around for the song at the end. It is absolutely haunting. It's simple, but it stays with you.
Or if you'd prefer, listen to it now.

Trees Make Seeds

trees make seeds
and worms eat seeds
and bigger worms eat worms
then birds eat other big worms
and get real fat
bigger bugs eat small fat bugs
the birds eat all big bugs
bigger birds eat all small birds
and just like that
bigger birds make bigger eggs
they all turn to dirt
dirt eat seeds
and seeds make trees
and trees make seeds
Watch Noiseman here: (It's the best I could find. These have Spanish subtitles, but they shouldn't detract too much. If anyone can suggest a better place to watch it, please suggest a link!)
*Edit- I found one dubbed in English!
With a face like this, how can you not watch it?

Check out http://www.kojimorimoto.net/fr/site.htm for more production art and images. The website is in French, but one can use Babelfish to translate it.

Thick, Tricky Jam

Jam!
Simmering on a stove
In a cast iron pot
Is jam
Thick, tricky, jam
Jam that reminds you of the dress you stained
From holding berries too tight
Realizing your bucket never gets fuller
Red jam to spread on biscuits
Red jam to spread as a halo
Around your mouth
To lick from your fingers
Until there is only a sticky, sticky perfume

Summer is just around the bend, and I thought to myself, what is the first thing one thinks about when summer is here? Is it sleeping in? Doing as you please? The curling smoke from a barbecue? For me, I think of jam; it associated with fond memories, sweet scents, hours of trying to get stickiness off of arms and hands. While I personally love jam, I do not know how to make it. However, Marley knows how to make jam! If you find yourself with a plethora of strawberries this summer, or any time, make jam. Homemade jams are memories capped in a jar.

JAM!! I LOVE JAM!!
I have an assortment of nicknames: Goggles, Mars, Shorty, Bob. ((Pleeeease don't say my name is Bob. It's not. I am neither Bob, nor a dog. Thank you.)) But the nickname I adore the most is Marmalade! Which is also quick delicious. It isn't quite jam, but it's... it's still thick n' tricky! In any case, I'll write somethin' up about marmalade later, since this is about jam! Jam comes in many different shapes and sizes, and dolloped onto crackers is delicious. It's almost as delicious as peanutbutter, and anyone who knows me knows peanutbutter Is. My. Love.

One day I got a whoooole bunch of strawberries from the next door neighbors. Not a little basket full, but an entire tray worth of fat strawberries. To keep 'em from rotting since I couldn't fit them all in the fridge, I blended them up. I made strawberry milkshakes, strawberry ice-cream, and just plain strawberry goop. With this, I made jam! But how does one make the jellious jam in a jar?

Ingredients:
1.) Strawberries! Blended, chopped. It doesn't matter, just as long as you got enough. I made do with about three cups.
2.) Sugar. For every cup of strawberries you have, you're going to need one cup of sugar. However, when mixing it all together, I like to add a little less since I don't like my jam too sweet. I shave off an inch or two from my cups and it still comes out plenty sweet.
3.) Lemon juice. This is optional, but if you think your jam is a little sweet as you've nabbed a little nibble, a slurp from the spoon you've been mixing everything together, add a tablespoon or so of lemon until at a desired tartness. Not too much thought!
4.) Fruit Pectin. Pectin? What's pectin? This, my folks, my friends is the stuff that makes the jam jellify. You'll want about a tablespoon of the tart little powder to make your squashed sugar-fruit mass stick together.

Now, essentially what you gotta do is just get a pot, turn on the stove, mix the the strawberries and sugar together and while it's warming up to a rolling boil, ((I prefer to wait until it's at the boil.)) pour in the lemon juice and pectin. Stir and cook for ten or so minutes and take off the foamy parts on top afterwards. Fortunately, the foamy parts still makes good spready stuff.

Oh, and as a note, before you pour your jam into any jars, make sure the jars you're using are sterilized. Fruit is very prone to rotting and bacteria just adore sugar. I think you have to heat the jars AND lids up to about 255 degrees after washing them out to get them clean, but you'll have to make sure it's the right kind of glass for that. Glass, when undergoing quick temperature changes tends to shatter, folks! Though hopefully, cleaning it out in hot, hot water should do the trip. But to be safe, read the instructions on how to clean jars first. I think I just got lucky. :'D

Thick, tricky, homemade Marley Jam! Three of these sorts of jars were filled.

Jam is best stored in a cool place to avoid spoilage. I suppose my own fondness of jam has spawned because it is such a whimsical, magical food: Tea parties serve biscuits and jam, a child walks around with jam on her mouth, and the Queen of Hearts made some tarts all on a summer's day! I guess it's just a food I've never associated with unpleasant memories, save for the bees one is so terrified of as she outruns the buzzing beasts that is most likely attracted to the jam that has somehow managed to wind up on her nose. Even then, when eating jam, there seems to be no wicked memory. Atheistically pleasing to the eye and deliciously devourable on the tongue, jam just melts into a piece of bread making it sweet like the idea of jam melting into dreams.

And to finish, here is a picture of my cat Bridget with a sail boat on her. Her tummy is a vast fire ocean spun with monsters. Rawr!

Gettin' back to the groove.

What groove? THERE WILL BE A GROOVE!

So here is something y'all might like. For me, it makes me laugh and then feel really good about myself:

P.S. Marley is getting mucus all over the place. He's been ill for the past to weeks, but he says, "Hi." Don't worry. He's making a recovery. His main concern how is to keep the nasal drippings out of his food!

With much love,
Cheyenne

Alright my fellow girls! We're up and running... more or less.
I had hoped to have had the website open and ready for buisness by the end of December, but Marley and I forgot that right after a relaxing, mind melting, two week vacation, finals start. Stress anyone? I will still try to have a couple of posts up by the end of the week, so go ahead and join! Right now, I'm not sure if this will reach anyone's eyes, but if it does, feel free to tell your buddies about it. Thank you!
